Provides nursing services, treatments and diagnostic and preventive procedures appropriate for inmate care and safety
This role involves providing nursing services, treatments, and diagnostic and preventive procedures appropriate for inmate care and safety. Responsibilities include interpreting physicians' orders, administering prescribed medication, and assisting physicians during sick calls. The nurse will apply surgical dressings and bandages, provide emergency first aid care, and check and record vital signs. Additionally, the nurse will instruct inmates on discharge planning, observe signs and symptoms during sick calls when the physician is not present, and report reactions to treatments and medications as well as changes in inmates' emotional or physical conditions. The role may also involve instructing and supervising correctional staff regarding inmate health care and needs, consulting with supervisors on problem cases, checking and ordering supplies, maintaining accurate medical records, and providing health care education to inmates.
Required skills and experience
- Graduation from a Licensed Vocational Nurse Program and current license/permit as a vocational nurse in the State of Texas
- 1+ year of Med/Surg, LTAC experience.
- Current BLS-HP required
- LVN’s must be IV Therapy Certified
